With my new 'Lasso' series of shaped canvas paintings, I use my own body as a measure—lines marking the circumference of my head, my chest, and my height set the tone for each painting. The process is layered and meticulous; through every layer of paint and sanding, the painting is carved out, as if meaning is being lassoed and pulled into form. I am interested in how personal dimensions can map abstract ideas, forming loops that attempt to capture something intangible.
